Litigation Trainee

Part-time, 7am to 11am, unpaid, a month at a time. Practical training on real matters, with a coach and the Lawgistics Academy online.

What you will do

  • Legal research on live matters, set by the lawyer running the file
  • Draft correspondence, submissions and first drafts of court documents
  • Prepare case files, bundles, chronologies and evidence summaries
  • Attend client meetings, take notes and follow up on actions
  • Attend court and assist on active matters

What we look for

  • A genuine interest in litigation, and the wish to gain practical experience of it
  • An LLB or equivalent, completed, or currently being completed with exams finished
  • Clear, structured written reasoning. This matters most
  • Nothing else. CLP, Bar or LLM are welcome but not required, and fresh graduates are welcome

Paralegal Programme

What you will do

  • CLP, Bar or LLM welcome but not required

  • Genuine interest in litigation and commercial practice

Trainees who do well are offered this programme. Law graduates can also apply for it directly, and the application is the same 40-minute assessment.

Internship

Four to twelve weeks, for law students who have not finished exams

The internship is for law students partway through the degree, before the trainee programme is open to them. You attach a CV and answer seven questions in 25 minutes, and none of them expects you to have covered a particular subject yet. Like every route here, it is a chance for us to get to know you.

What you will do

  • Run disputes files with conduct of the matter, in litigation and arbitration
  • Appear in court and before tribunals
  • Work directly with clients and with the partners
  • Supervise and develop the paralegals, pupils and trainees on your files

What we look for

  • Admitted as an Advocate & Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya
  • Substantial post-qualification experience in litigation or arbitration
  • Clear, structured written advocacy
  • Experience running files with real independence

Every route, the internship, the trainee programme and the paralegal programme, is a chance for us to get to know you, and if you stand out we may offer you pupillage. It gives you a real view of the work before you commit, and it gives us a real view of you beyond a transcript.
